I came across this picture this morning:
And all I could think of was Napoleon Dynamite's liger: "It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic."
But this not a liger, it is a zedonk - a zebra-donkey hybrid. Pretty in a way.
After a little research, I found that the liger does indeed exist! Although it probably does not have the fabled magical abilities that Napoleon claimed...

It is so pretty!!! Marina's Donkey, Alice, had her baby yesterday! Its a boy! We are going to visit it this weekend. You should meet us there to meet the little guy :).
ReplyDeleteYes....there are all kinds of hybrids..there is a Liger, and a Tigon. Depends on the fathers species....I had to use a lot of examples of hybrids when I was working with the educational foundation. There was an entire chapter on hybrids. THey are actually very common - but sadly something like 99% of hybrid animals can not reproduce:(
