Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch

Did you hear about this? Apparently there are two gigantic patches of plastic trash floating out in the Pacific Ocean that are believed to be twice the size of the Continental US. There is some sort of vortex in the water that causes all this garbage (from being thrown off ships, or coming from land) to collect in these two areas. One researcher believes that this could even become its own ecosystem and he plans to do his own research expedition.

An article from 2006 mentions that at that time, this garbage patch was only twice the size of Texas. It has grown immensely in three years. When will it stop?
